State Park Reopens After Rains

CHINO HILLS STATE PARK will REOPEN TODAY, Tuesday, December 23, 2014 at 8 AM. The park will reopen this morning. There are some areas which still have some standing water. Please walk or ride around these areas to protect the trail. High winds are forecasted for today which will continue to loosen the Russian thistle (tumbleweeds) in and around the park causing them to gather in certain areas making some trails difficult to pass or impassable. ALERT: Rains Cause Mudslides Post-Fire

Fires, steep hillsides, and rain — a recipe for trouble? The 91 Freeway was closed this morning due to a mudslide that spanned all eastbound lanes. Reports indicate the mud came from the unstable burn areas (of Chino Hills State Park). Today we go to the Planning Commission in Orange County to remind them that houses on hills, fires, and rain will also be a recipe for trouble. We will report the decision when we have it.
