Nearly 4,000 acres have been protected on the western side of the hills. These lands are managed by the Puente Hills Landfill Native Habitat Preservation Authority.
Effective Monday, September 18, 2017, all trails are open June – September 9 AM – 6 PM and October – May 9 AM – 5 PM. This applies to Sycamore Canyon, Hacienda Hills, and Turnbull Canyon trail access points. It is already in effect at Hellman Park. Violators subject to $175 – $1,000 fine. Trails are open except during extreme or hazardous weather conditions. All trails are closed 48 hours after the rain. Some parks take longer to dry than others; those areas may be closed for longer periods of time. Also, all trails are closed during red flag days (extreme fire hazard days).

ACCESS
There are seven access points to the Puente Hills lands: Hacienda Hills (Hacienda Heights), Turnbull Canyon, Arroyo Pescadero, and Hellman Park (Whittier), Sycamore Canyon and Schabarum Park (L.A. County), and Powder Canyon (La Habra Heights).
