Defeating the Toll Road Proposal

Over the years, seven road projects have been proposed to cut through Chino Hills State Park. To date, Hills For Everyone has defeated them all.

One of the most egregious proposals was the northern extension of the 241 Toll Road through Lower Aliso Canyon in 1998. Knowing what the Park looks like on a map and how land use and transportation planning work has been an essential part of our evolution of strategy.

Parkland tends to be coveted as dumping grounds for urban infrastructure. In other words, planners often see undeveloped land as an empty place where more roadways, waterlines or powerlines can go.

However, protected lands already have a use: protect protecting plant communities and wildlife, and as a place for humans to recreate.
