Hills For Everyone opposes Proposition 45. This proposition proposes sweeping changes to the state’s bedrock environmental law–changes that make it easier for polluting projects, data centers, and more to be built without the review we’ve become so accustomed to since 1970. We urge a no vote on Prop 45.
Other reasons that Hills For Everyone opposes Prop 45:
- Prop 45 leaves California with little defense against Trump’s attacks on our environment.
- As the Trump Administration continues to roll back protections for clean air, clean water, public lands and wildlife, it’s more important than ever for California to step up and defend the laws ensuring that public health, clean air, and clean water are protected.
- Prop 45 will allow developers to fast-track projects like data centers across the state, while silencing the communities affected by these polluting facilities.
- Prop 45 explicitly excludes many other project types – including high-speed rail, detention centers and the Delta tunnels – but data centers are a glaring omission from the measure’s list of exclusions.
- Corporate data center builders are pouring millions of dollars into the Prop 45 campaign, so they can earn higher profits by building whatever they want.
- For families living near freeways, warehouses, and industrial sites, environmental review is often their only defense against more asthma, more toxic runoff, and more pollution.
- This measure puts corporate profits ahead of public health by allowing polluting projects to move forward with far less scrutiny.
- Prop 45 rolls back protections for public health and our air, water and land from toxic chemicals — leaving taxpayers stuck with cleanup bills.
- The independent and nonpartisan Legislative Analyst’s Office estimates that Prop 45 could cost taxpayers $100 million or more per year.
- For example, taxpayers are already spending over $750 million to clean up lead contamination from just one industrial plant in Southern California.
