Climate Change Increase Fire Risk

Fire scientists have been tracking wildfires in Southern California and have documented that when our coastal sage scrub and chaparral habitats burn too frequently–those habitats change. It’s called type conversion. For us, the habitats convert from our scrub/chaparral landscapes to weedy, non-native invasive grasslands. Non-native grasslands are considered flashy fuels that out compete the native plants, and are easier to ignite and spread fire faster across our habitat lands. Read the Los Angeles Times article.

Tres Hermanos Solution Coming?

What is in store for the 2,450 acre Tres Hermanos ranch? That’s the question asked by the Los Angeles Times in this article. The Cities of Industry, Diamond Bar, Chino Hills, and now Commerce, are battling for the answer. Hills For Everyone Executive Director Claire Schlotterbeck acknowledged the biological diversity of the site isn’t well known because the land has been protected with armed guards at the gates and on patrol since 1978. Industry Audit Proves Suspicious Finances

Shady business dealings, scrutinized transactions, gift of public funds, and other suspicious financial dealings are a few of the phrases used to describe the City’s financial situation in the article and draft audit report.
