Big news from the State of California as Governor Newsom proposes protecting 30% of California lands and coast by 2030. Dubbed the 30 by 30 campaign, Newsom mentioned focusing on California natural history and legacy of open space. Land Trust Rally

Today was the first day of three days we will be participating in the Land Trust Alliance (LTA) Rally. Instead of hosting in the planned city of Portland, OR, due to COVID-19 the LTA Rally 2020 is being held virtually. We hope to be able to use some of the tools, techniques, and skills we gain from this conference and apply it to our work in the Puente-Chino Hills Wildlife Corridor. Learn more about the LTA Rally.

Fire Myths Clarified

This is an important article to carefully read and slowly absorb about fires (especially the myths about forest fires versus chaparral fires). Fuel reduction has been the hot topic to “keep communities safe,” but in reality, the science is showing fires in these logged areas are actually burning hotter and more intensely. Rodenticide Ban Bill Passed!

We are thrilled to announce that Governor Newsom signed AB 1788 today, which bans second generation anticoagulant rodenticides. This means predators and scavengers like mountain lions, bobcats, and owls will no longer die a slow, painful death due to eating a poisoned rodent. Thank you for all the letters submitted and all the organizations involved in this effort!

Birds Benefit During COVID

This is both fascinating and sad. Our busy and loud noise changed the song of birds. Now, with COVID and more people staying home, busy and noisy aren’t occurring as often.
