Local Parks Measure in LA County

Today we participated in a meeting to learn more about the ‪#‎OurParksLA‬ effort. The ultimate goal is to get another park bond measure on the ballot–for this November–that allows for natural lands acquisitions, improvements to trails and park infrastructure, improves our water quality, and keeps our community and families safe. Landfill Plan and EIR Scoping Meeting

Puente Hills Landfill Park (Not So Much)

The Puente Hills Landfill was to be converted to a passive park after the landfill’s closure. LA County Parks staff however, has thrown in everything but the kitchen sink in its proposal for the new county regional park. There are parking lots, gondolas, a giant concrete slide, a zip line, two BMX bike skills courses, stair climbs, bike rentals and an amphitheater. See the proposal level the backdrop of Brea to add 3,600 houses on 3,000 acres in Los Angeles and Orange County.  This land connects the protected areas on the western side of the hills to the eastern side of the hills.  It is known as the Missing Middle of the Puente-Chino Hills Wildlife Corridor. Tonner Canyon

The City of Industry has its sights set on scraping the hillsides clean and constructing several dams along with side (saddle) dams in Tonner Canyon, as well as adding a road along the ridgetop–all of this on top of an earthquake fault.  This land lies in San Bernardino, Los Angeles and Orange Counties and its not contiguous with the City of Industry’s city boundary.
