You may recall the threat that emerged over the summer to the functionality of the Harbor Blvd wildlife tunnel. The County of Los Angeles was set to sell ~28 acres of land next to the undercrossing to the City of La Habra Heights to help it comply with its affordable housing requirements. Threat to the Harbor Undercrossing

At the end of June, the County of Los Angeles was set to sell ~28 acres of land next to the Harbor Blvd. undercrossing to the City of La Habra Heights. This is concerning for a number of reasons. The Habitat Authority manages nearly 4,000 acres of protected open space west of Harbor Boulevard. When Harbor Blvd. was widened and straightened in the early 1990s, collisions with migrating wildlife soared. With the wider road, wildlife needed to dash across four lanes of traffic, not two and those vehicles were now going 60 miles per hour, not 30. Update on Harbor Blvd. Tunnel

Thanks to all the residents that stepped up to comment on the transfer of land from the County of Los Angeles to the City of La Habra Heights, which we believe impacts the Wildlife Corridor. The Board of Supervisors continued the item to Tuesday, July 28th. This gives Hills For Everyone a chance to work with experts to propose a solution that supports wildlife movement.
