Hills For Everyone; Friends of Harbors, Beaches and Parks; Orange County Coastkeeper; and Endangered Habitats League collaborated to negotiate a conservation program into the Orange County Transportation Authority’s Renewed Measure M. Instead of spending money in a piecemeal fashion, conservation groups took it to the next level and asked the Authority to spend it comprehensively—on large scale acquisition and restoration projects. The Authority’s board agreed to it and so did OC voters.
Since 2004, Hills For Everyone and its partners have built a trusting and honest relationship with this transportation agency to implement the Environmental Mitigation Program. It was approved by voters in 2006. To date, more than 1,300 acres have been protected across Orange County, including lands adjacent to Chino Hills State Park. And, more than 350 acres have been restored into healthy native habitat.
