Hills For Everyone, along with many other organizations, signed on as a “friend of the court” in a case brought by residents in the City of Orange. In a unanimous decision, the State Supreme Court ruled in “our” favor. The case stems from a site called Ridgeline, where a developer had proposed converting open space into housing by relying on an old General Plan designation, even though a new Plan was in place stating it was open space. Residents overturned the City’s approval of the project by using a referendum and then the developer filed a lawsuit. Residents lost at the Appellate level and now just won at the State Supreme Court.
