Mountain Lion Moves Closer to Protected Status

The Southern California sub-species of mountain lion may get extra protections from the state. The populations are at risk of extinction due to habitat fragmentation, lack of breeding partners, wildlife-vehicle collisions, depredation permits, and loss of habitat. A review period will be opened if the State Fish and Game Commission decides to formally grant our local cougars protected status.
