Every year we hold our breath during the days before and after the 4th of July. One only look at the catastrophe in Malibu and Altadena to remember how devastating wildfires can be. As you celebrate the 4th, we remind you that fireworks are illegal in all cities surrounding the Puente-Chino Hills Wildlife Corridor. Fireworks are the leading cause of wildfires in July.
Every year around this time our stress levels increase because some residents choose to ignore restrictions on fireworks. Restrictions meant to keep us, our property, and our parks safe. Did you know that 99% of wildfires in our hills are because of human causes? Fireworks being one of those causes–and always around the 4th of July. Let’s stay safe and only watch the professional shows.
We are pleased to report that we are aware of no fires that were started in the Puente-Chino Hills Wildlife Corridor in the days before or after the Fourth of July. We know FireWatch volunteers were out and so were park and preserve rangers. We can breathe a sign of relief related to this significant and historic fire ignition week. Keep up the vigilance as it will be a hot, dry summer!
