The UC Davis Road Ecology Center reports a decrease (by 71%) of traffic during the stay at home orders in California. Why does this matter? Fewer cars on the roads means fewer animals dying from vehicle collisions. Research shows there was a 21% decrease in animals killed per day. And, mountain lions, which we hope get special protections under the California Endangered Species Act, had 56% fewer deaths spanning the 10 week shutdown.
