Known as “Ant Man” or “Charles Darwin’s natural heir,” Dr. Wilson was an entomologist focused on bringing evolutionary biology to the spotlight. As a reminder most park agencies, including Chino Hills State Park and the Puente Hills Habitat Preservation Authority, close the trail systems during and after rains to preserve the integrity of the trails. The Puente-Chino Hills are known for clay soils, which are sticky and take longer to dry out. Trail users try to avoid the puddles, which expands the trail unnaturally and impacts the land. We are thrilled to report that the County of Los Angeles Regional Planning Commission unanimously endorsed enacting a strong policy related to housing in wildfire zones. This policy prohibits new subdivisions in Very High Fire Hazard Severity Zones unless entirely surrounded by existing built development, connects to infrastructure, and has roadways that can handle mass evacuations.
