We are reeling from the sudden loss a dear friend to the cause of protecting our region. Jeff Yann, a deeply engaged activist from Hacienda Heights died in a snorkeling accident in Hawaii. A longtime leader in the Sierra Club, Jeff also served on the Advisory Board to the Wildlife Corridor Conservation Authority. Hills For Everyone has joined the broad coalition of more than 100 local community organizations, children’s advocates, educators, advocates for seniors, and business and environmental leaders that have come together to pass this essential measure. Proposition A is known as the Safe, Clean Neighborhood Parks, Open Space, Beaches, Rivers Protection, and Water Conservation Measure, which incorporates an annual 1.5 cent tax per square foot of building area on property owners. Conservation Plan Gets First Thumbs Up

We wanted to report that on Wednesday, there was the first of three approvals of Conservation Plans written by the Orange County Transportation Authority that permanently protects 1,300 acres of land and restores nearly 400 through a mitigation program. Chino Hills State Park has received funds for two restoration projects and is currently managing the 296-acre Hayashi Preserve in Carbon Canyon. Puente Hills Park Moves Forward

With the Puente Hills Landfill now closed, the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisor’s voted on it’s “next iteration.” In a 5-0 vote the project’s Environmental Impact Report and Park Master Plan were accepted. This means trails and other amenities like a gondola, amphitheater, bicycle skills course and more will be added onto the old landfill site. The new park includes about 117 acres.
