Congress Allow Conservation Dollars to Sunset

What a huge disappointment! Instead of reauthorizing the Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF), Congress let the bill sunset today. Many of our public lands have benefited from these important LWCF dollars…. including Chino Hills State Park. This eliminates future federal dollars from this program. Let’s hope conservation wins the day in the months to come as nonprofits spearhead the effort to reauthorize the bill allowing more lands to be protected in perpetuity.

Wildlife Fencing Tour

The Transportation Corridor Agency is installing wildlife fencing on the 241 North to reduce car collisions with animals. The targeted animals are deer, coyotes, bobcats and cougars. To monitor their work there are multiple wildlife cameras both at jump offs, culverts and bridges. There are jump offs available to animals that may have reached the roadway accidentally and are looking for a way back “into” the habitat lands. Check out our photos on Facebook.

Study Finds Santa Ana Wind Fires Bigger/Faster

The OC Register printed a great article on why building at the Wildland-Urban Interface is NOT a great idea. It turns out, from this UCI published report, that Santa Ana Wind driven fires cause more damage (80% of the $3.1 billion in economic losses) and move faster (three times the speed of non-wind driven fires). Hidden Oaks Country Club

The City of Chino Hills is offering two public meetings TODAY (September 23) from 4 – 5:30 PM and from 6:30 – 8 PM on a development proposed in Carbon Canyon. The project, called Hidden Oaks Country Club is a 537 acre project with 107 hillside lots throughout the property. Casino Fire Burns Esperanza Hills

The Orange County Fire Authority reported a fire at approximately 12:15 PM on Thursday, September 17, 2015. It appeared to be north of Stonehaven/Via del Agua and east of Casino Ridge. Orange County Fire Authority (OCFA) initially put it at six acres. Post-burn GPS measurements put its final toll at 17 acres.
