Great American Outdoors Act Passes

with No Comments

We have another announcement coming later today, but we thought we’d share some OTHER good news. Yesterday, the President signed the “Great American Outdoors Act” and contained within that is the (now fully funded) Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF). This legislation was support by both houses (Senate and House) and had bi-partisan (Republicans and Democrats) support too! The money in LWCF supports national parks, forests, and other public lands. Chino Hills State Park has been the recipient of LWCF dollars in … Read More

Conservation Funding

Just like we’ve done one acre at a time with Chino Hills State Park, the Mojave Desert Land Trust is doing the same thing in the desert. We’d like to give a shout out to our long-time friend, Geary Hund, for his work through California State Parks protecting Coal Canyon Wildlife Corridor in the late 1990s/early 2000s. Coal Canyon is the key linkage between the Santa Ana Mountains and Chino Hills State Park. Geary is featured in the article, which … Read More

In a significant move this week, the US Senate approved the “Great American Outdoors Act,” which combines two topics. First, the backlog of maintenance projects (estimated to be $12 billion) for our National Parks has $9.5 billion included in the bill. Second, the bill permanently supports up to $900 million every year for conservation funding. The latter funding comes through a program call the Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF). Lands within Chino Hills State Park include acquisitions funded through LWCF dollars. … Read More

Federal Conservation Funding Renewed

with No Comments

Congress reauthorized the critical conservation bill, known as the Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF). Congress let it expire September 30 after 50 years of successful conservation funding. Many organizations, including Hills For Everyone, supported its renewal. In the last few days, Congress approved an omnibus spending package with a three-year extension the Fund. There is an increase in the annual allocation and $450 million is available for conservation each year. These funds were used in the purchase of a … Read More

Congress Allow Conservation Dollars to Sunset

with No Comments

What a huge disappointment! Instead of reauthorizing the Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF), Congress let the bill sunset today. Many of our public lands have benefited from these important LWCF dollars…. including Chino Hills State Park. This eliminates future federal dollars from this program. Let’s hope conservation wins the day in the months to come as nonprofits spearhead the effort to reauthorize the bill allowing more lands to be protected in perpetuity.
