In a significant move this week, the US Senate approved the “Great American Outdoors Act,” which combines two topics. First, the backlog of maintenance projects (estimated to be $12 billion) for our National Parks has $9.5 billion included in the bill. Second, the bill permanently supports up to $900 million every year for conservation funding. The latter funding comes through a program call the Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF). It is a big disappointment to hear that the California Supreme Court opted not to hear the case on Esperanza Hills. The Orange County Board of Supervisors approved the project–the latest iteration–with a 3-2 vote last September. These 340 multi-million dollar houses are proposed immediately adjacent to Chino Hills State Park. There is one more lawsuit appeal pending.
