HEAR THE TRUTH:

In the City of Brea City Council election, two candidates have shown support for a road through Tonner Canyon connecting to the Olinda Alpha Landfill. This is a red herring because the road isn’t possible.

RECEIPTS:

1. OC Waste & Recycling deemed Tonner Canyon Road infeasible for multiple reasons during its environmental review of transportation alternatives for the Olinda Alpha Landfill.

2. The City of Brea requested amending the Orange County Master Plan of Arterial Highways to eliminate the Tonner Canyon Roadway from the plan. In the meantime, it has been downgraded from an arterial road.

3. The Tonner Hills/Blackstone development required both conserved lands and mitigation lands to lessen the impacts of that development. This included protecting 455 acres, all of which have a conservation easement over them.

4. The Tonner Hills Conservation Easement prohibits inconsistent uses (like building a road) on those lands as they are counter to the open space and habitat protection designation.
