Public Prevents Fire Fighting

It is sad to see that the public got in the way of the fire agencies for the recent Chino Hills Star Fire hampering efforts to contain the fire. Quail — the State Bird

The state bird of California is the quail. It has a distinctive plume and lives in groups known as coveys. They hunt by foraging seeds and leaves on the ground. They also nest on the ground in shallow depressions lined with leaves. If disturbed, they may burst into a low flight.

P61 Crosses 405 Freeway

This is fitting considering our post from yesterday. This Santa Monica Mountains cougar (P-61) managed to cross the 405 freeway near the Sepulveda Pass between 2 and 4 AM on July 19th. Go P-61! Fingers crossed at some point in the future, our wildlife will be able to safely cross our roadways with overpasses/culverts because we’ve planned them better. The risk is death.
