Our conservation work requires a lot of partnerships at the local, regional, state, and federal level. We were deeply appreciative of the letter we received yesterday from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service on the 320 acre acquisition we helped facilitate earlier this year. The Service’s funding was instrumental to this success. Your support, and the support of all of our partners, makes this work possible.

Leave the Mistletoe Behind

With the holiday season in full swing, we thought we’d remind everyone that our favorite ‘hemiparasitic plant” (aka mistletoe) is protected in our parklands. This means, while it is fun to “kiss under the mistletoe” (virus aside!), if it is found inside Chino Hills State Park or on the Puente Hills Habitat Preservation Authority Preserve-removing it is illegal. Double Planet Visible 12/21

Mark your calendar! On December 21st, Jupiter and Saturn will appear as a double planet in the night sky. The last time this happened was the Middle Ages. This event is called a “conjunction” when two items in the night sky line up. And, you can view it with your naked eye–no telescope or binoculars needed! View the article in the Washington Post.

Land Exchange Denied

Earlier today Hills For Everyone participated in a public hearing by commenting on a proposed land exchanged in San Diego that would have allowed a previously protected preserve to be developed with high end houses in exchange for other less valuable habitat nearby. This would have set a terrible precedent for the Wildlife Conservation Board by undoing the conservation transaction. Thankfully, the Board members understood the implications and the final vote opposed the land exchange (5-1), with one recusal.
