The Orange County Fire Authority reported a fire at approximately 12:15 PM on Thursday, September 17, 2015. It appeared to be north of Stonehaven/Via del Agua and east of Casino Ridge.  Orange County Fire Authority (OCFA) initially put it at six acres.  Post-burn GPS measurements put its final toll at 17 acres.  It seems the majority of the fire burned the Esperanza Hills property–land proposed for development with approvals by the County of Orange.  Hills For Everyone and others filed a lawsuit … Read More

The Santa Ana Wildfire Threat Index (SAWTI) categorizes Santa Ana winds based on anticipated fire potential.  The tool breaks down Southern California into four geographies, outlines the areas where fires will have low (marginal) to extreme rates of growth, and current weather conditions. This product is produced by the USDA Forest Service and Predictive Services.  Check it out and bookmark the page.

ALERT: Rains Cause Mudslides Post-Fire

Fires, steep hillsides, and rain — a recipe for trouble? The 91 Freeway was closed this morning due to a mudslide that spanned all eastbound lanes. Reports indicate the mud came from the unstable burn areas (of Chino Hills State Park).
