Every jurisdiction (cities and counties) in California is required to have a General Plan. It serves as a visioning document for how and where development should occur over time. Brea’s current General Plan was approved in 2003 and needs to be updated (especially Brea’s Core) since so many changes have accrued: new housing, new laws regarding open space and wildlife corridors, and different kinds of businesses. This plan will shape Brea’s direction for the next 20 years.
Conservation starts with good policies (e.g. protect ridgelines, slope development limitations, buffer zones, etc.). The next step in the process is the community open house scheduled for Thursday, March 12th, 2026. Mark your calendars and stay tuned for more specific information as it unfolds.
In the meantime, the draft Environmental Impact Report and the draft General Plan itself was just released with comments due Monday, March 30, 2026.
