There are a surprising number of purple flowers. These flowers are called Blue Dicks and are found throughout the Puente-Chino Hills Wildlife Corridor.
The cougars in the Santa Ana and Santa Monica Mountains face dire consequences if these “islands” of habitat are not connected. The cougars are genetically isolated, which causes inbreeding, and that means the mountain lions face local extinction. Corridors connecting other habitats and new females are needed to keep the populations genetically diverse. Read the Orange County Register article.
With the rains came more vegetation… with the vegetation comes more rodents… and that means more snakes. If you plan to go outdoors at all this spring (and summer or fall) please be aware of snakes. Hills For Everyone has participated in the Green Scene at the Fullerton Arboretum for years. We’ve always had good experiences there. We are shocked that Cal State Fullerton would consider removal of all or a portion of the Arboretum to make room for dorms. If this local landmark and beautiful garden is important to you, please consider attending the April 10th Public Forum from 10 – 2 (location TBD) to relay your concerns and ideas.
