On the ridgeline in the distance, it was just a shape, but it was distinct—the head, the long tail, the saunter. Two years ago, I finally saw a cougar in the State Park. It was thrilling.
Hills For Everyone (HFE) has been working to ensure their access to our wildlands for 30 years and there was proof we have succeeded. Wildlife cameras confirmed a cougar used the 91 Freeway Coal Canyon underpass from the night before.
It struck me that the generosity of so many people made this possible. Thank you. Your contributions to HFE have changed the future of our region.
Top predators, scary though they are, must be part of our wildlands. They maintain the balance of all of the other layers. Large predators keep check on smaller ones. They also impact the “browsers and grazers,” like deer. Those animals, in turn, shape the plant palette.
In the Puente-Chino Hills Wildlife Corridor, the top predator is the mountain lion. They are the topic of many discussions that guide policy decisions.
Would you contribute to the future of cougars in the Wildlife Corridor by donating today? I hope so!
We could use your support so our work can focus on habitat and ecosystem protection. Please give as generously as you can.
