Shell-Aera is in discussions with the City of Diamond Bar in an attempt to be annexed into this development friendly city.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION
Shell-Aera proposes to change the local area plan and zoning to implement a phased development of 3,600 houses, an 18-hole golf course, local community commercial uses, and park space.  This project will bring an additional 40,000 vehicle trips a day to our streets, destroy the scenic backdrop to north Orange County and Rowland Heights, sever the Puente-Chino Hills Wildlife Corridor.

STATUS - UPDATED 12/19/07
On December 19, 2007, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service published in the Federal Register a final rule revising critical habitat for the federally endangered coastal California gnatcatcher. Critical habitat identifies geographic areas essential for the conservation of a threatened or endangered species and which may require special management considerations. A large portion of the Shell-Aera property is now listed as critical habitat. Download the ruling by following this link, go to the PDF's page 32 for information on the Puente-Chino Hills and 174 for a map of the critical habitat.

nop mEETING - APril 21, 2003
Shell-Aera filed its original Notice of Preparation (NOP) of an Environmental Impact Report with the Counties of Los Angeles and Orange on Monday, April 21, 2003.  The County of Los Angeles was the lead agency since 90% of the Shell-Aera project lies within LA's jurisdiction. Click the link to read Shell-Aera's Notice of Preparation (313 KB). Since the original NOP was filed, Shell-Aera's project was turned down by the Significant Ecological Area Technical Advisory Committee of Los Angeles County.  Read more about this decision in the Hills For Everyone Newsletter from Summer 2006.

Now, representatives have taken the project to the City of Diamond Bar to not only annex the property into the City but to also review the development plans.  Shell-Aera filed its second Notice of Preparation (NOP) of an Environmental Impact Report with the City of Diamond Bar on Wednesday, May 2, 2007.  Click the link to read Shell-Aera's Notice of Preparation (2.47 MB).

DOES SHELL AND EXXON MOBIL NEED THE MONEY FROM 3,600 HOUSES IN OUR BACKYARD? YOU DECIDE.
Aera Energy is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Shell and ExxonMobil.

Shell topped its own record-setting results with an estimated profit of $23 billion for 2005.

Exxon unveiled a profit of about $32 billion for 2005. This will be the largest single profit in the history of corporate America.

In June 2006, Shell reported that its second-quarter earnings jumped 40 percent to $7.32 billion in 2006.

Exxon Mobil has made more than $20 billion in profits in just the first six months in 2006. This new Exxon Mobil report shows the oil company earning more than $1,300 a second by some estimates
