lands at risk: chino hills state park

WANT TO RUIN ANOTHER STATE PARK WITH POWER LINES?
photo of powerlinesSouthern California Edison has proposed a project to upgrade power lines for transmission of wind energy from the Tehachapi Mountains.  One segment of their preferred alternative goes through a City of Chino Hills neighborhood that has grown up alongside Edison's existing easement. Two council members  live in that neighborhood and though conflicted out of the vote, three other council members did them a favor by allocating $650,000 of public money to fight the taller towers.

All of the city's proposed alternatives go through Chino Hills State Park. This is the same city that supported a toll road through the State Park and approved a development where a breeding pair of golden eagles once nested.   Mimicking the battle at San Onofre State Beach, this local jurisdiction is looking to parklands as nothing more than place holders for urban infrastructure they did not adequately plan for.  The transmission lines were there before the houses were there.

The Public Utilities Commission has heard from the noisy neighborhood. On January 17th from 6:30 - 8:30 p.m. we will have our chance to speak up to oppose any route through the State Park.

Please come to the Brea Community Center at 695 Madison Way.  Exit Imperial Highway, head west and turn north on Randolph, and turn left onto Madison Way.  The last hearing was raucous with boos directed at State Parks.   We need to be there to boo back.
