Writing Letters to the Editor is a method of spreading information (and shaping public opinion) to a wider audience for free. If an article is in the paper about development project or preservation news, it is best to respond quickly.

In order to get published, letters should follow these rules:

1. Be brief.

2. Summarize (briefly) the article to which you are responding without repeating the opponent’s arguments.

3. Don’t use sarcasm, acronyms, or terms not understood by everyone (e.g. EIR).

4. Keep it simple and clear – the reader will most likely not be as well informed as you are.

5. Use facts and humor.

6. Put your name address and phone number down so they can verify it is indeed you who is sending the letter.
